Portugal 2030 is the partnership agreement between Portugal and the European Union that frames EU funding for the 2021 to 2027 period. In practice, it is the set of programmes through which companies, municipalities, associations and institutions can apply for support for investment, innovation, training and the digital or climate transition. Support is awarded through calls, which open and close on specific dates and each have their own rules.

A grant is support that does not have to be repaid, provided the project is delivered as approved and the programme's obligations are met. That sets it apart from a loan, which is repaid with interest. Most Portugal 2030 support combines a grant portion with a portion invested by the organisation itself, and the split varies with the call, the size of the company and the region.

It depends on the call, but generally companies of any size, municipalities and public bodies, non-profits and associations, universities and research centres can all apply. Each call sets its own eligibility criteria: sector, location, size, and being up to date with tax and social security, among others. Before going ahead, we always check that the organisation and the project meet those criteria.

PEPAC is Portugal's Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan, the instrument that delivers EU support for farming, forestry and rural development in Portugal. It covers everything from investment in farm holdings to sustainability measures and support for young farmers setting up. It works through calls, just like Portugal 2030.

Interreg is the European territorial cooperation programme, which funds projects run in partnership between organisations from several countries or regions. Unlike most national support, it normally requires a transnational consortium. It is a relevant route for organisations with partners elsewhere in Europe.

You can search and filter by programme, deadline or type of organisation, and open each call's page for deadlines, budget and documents.
